Gambel's Quail Gallery
Gambel's Quail, Callipepla gambelii, are just fascinating to watch. They are a very common sight in and around
Civano and our B&B. They have cute top knot plumage and can be seen running along the ground in family units
with mom, dad, and several little ones in tow. They rarely take to flight but instead run along the ground.
A typical behavior is crossing a road. The male will go across first. When the coast is clear, he'll coo,
then the little ones come a running, with the female guarding the back of the family.
I'll try to get some pictures of this behavior uploaded soon.
